Despite a highly charged-up home crowd, Flora lost to Kabugao, 91-95, during the Governor’s Cup at the Dr. Efren U. De San Jose Memorial Sports Center on May 12.
The local squad failed to sustain a 12-point lead at the end of third quarter, 78-66 after the visiting team completely outscored them in the fourth quarter, 29 for Kabugao including five from the three-point area while Flora had only 10.
Kabuago’s import Richard Albo had three of those crucial five three-pointers. He fired 10 of Kabugao’s 15 three point shots of the game as he led all scorers with 35 points.
Albo played for De Ocampo Memorial College.
Flora was reinforced by two equally talented players in Stephen Saruma and Jomar Santos. Saruma, who played with Philippine Christian University, scored 21 points while Santos, who is a standout with St. Claire College in Bulacan, 26 points.
In the other games during the Flora leg, eventual champion Calanasan defeated Conner, 95-71, while Sta. Marcela outshone Luna with a pulsating 87-86 triumph.
After Nigerian import Jeff Aguara slammed it big to put Luna infront, 86-85, with 15 seconds left, Sta. Marcela’s point guard Barsatan put back the missed of Vitug from 17 feet with 1.7 ticks left then import Rudy Conde blocked Enciso’s last ditch attempt from the baseline before the final buzzer sounded.
Earlier, Santos exploded with 46 points when Flora snatched its lone victory over Pudtol, 110-100, with latter playing as host on May 10.
Flora finished with a 1-5 win-loss record also dropping their Game to host Calanasan, 86-105, on May 3; host Luna, 101-110, on May 5; Conner, 89-100 on May 7; and Sta. Marcela on May 13.
Calanasan beat host Kabugao in their championship duel on May 14. KN
