The free clinic was composed of four sports disciplines that included basketball, taekwondo, volleyball an swimming. All of these are so-called Olympic sports and could be a rich source of medals for local athletes in the provincial, regional and the Palarong Pambansa.
This activity was organized by Municipal Sports Coordinator Roy Allan T. Juan.
An average of 30 kids (4-11 years old) joined the beginners class sessions in basketball which was held at the Dr. Efren U. De San Jose Memorial Sports Center.
These kids learned basic skills in dribbling, passing and shooting. They were also taught the right way in doing warm-up, stretching, running and footwork.
A separate session was held for the enrollees in advance basketball class (12 years old and above) conducted by certified national coaches Carlos A. Obispado and Abraham C. Cabocan, who are connected with the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP).
Volleyball sessions include basic skills in serving, blocking, spiking and tossing. Trainer Rey Pedro is a member of a volleyball club in Tuguegarao City registered with the National Sports Association (NSA) which is the Philippine Amateur Volleyball Association (PAVA).
In taekwondo, the trainers were Maximilian T. Nuguid and Val John Maborrang.
Both taekwondo and volleyball sessions were held at the municipal gymnasium.
Swimming sessions were held at the Acebedo Resort in Ballesteros, Cagayan under national coach Michael R. Tuddao.
The Municipal Sports Development Council earmarked a total of P100,000 for this sports clinic.
Meanwhile, the summer sports league had been cancelled but the budget will be used for Team Flora in the annual Governor’s Cup. KN
